The AGM was originally scheduled for May 6th, 2020, but postponed because of the coronavirus situation. To ensure that we have an AGM, we have now shifted to a virtual meeting. We invite our members to attend the virtual AGM that will be run using Zoom.

Samburu National Reserve camping trip 12th -14 December 2019

Samburu National Reserve is situated 350 kilometers North of Nairobi in Samburu County. It is one of the two areas in which conservationists George & Joy Adamson raised Elsa: the Lioness made famous in the bestselling book and award winning movie Born Free. The reserve is also the home of Kamunyak, a lioness famous for adopting oryx calves.

In the middle of the reserve, the Ewaso Ng’iro river flows through doum palm groves which provides water to the game in this arid region.

During the trip, we shall explore the reserves inspiring landscape look out for some of the big five, Gerenuk, Reticulated Giraffe, Somali Ostrich, Grevy’s Zebra, Besia Oryx, and much more. Birdlife is prolific with over 450 species of birds recorded.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Nairobi – Samburu ; Meet at NMK- outside Fisheries Department Gate at 7:15 am and depart at 7:30 am for Samburu. We shall have a stopover at enroute for Lunch

Day 2 - Samburu National Reserve -Early morning game drive and head back to the camp for a Brunch at 11:00 am.  You shall have an option of visiting a nearby lodge for refreshment /swimming or relaxing at the camp. At 3:00 pm we will start the afternoon game drive and head back to the camp at 6:30 pm for dinner.

Day 3 – Samburu –Nairobi -Breakfast will be served at 8:00 am; we shall enjoy game drive on our way out of the reserve and a stopover for Lunch enroute to Nairobi. We expect to be back at the National Museums of Kenya latest by 4:00 pm

Members’ overnight camping trip

We invite you to join us for an overnight camping trip to Nakuru and enjoy hiking Menengai crater, overnight camping, game drive and bird watching at Lake Nakuru National park.

About Menengai crater & Lake Nakuru National Park
Menengai Crater is one of Kenya's most intriguing destinations with spectacular scenery; it is surrounded by lush forest protected by the Kenya Forest Service. The crater is believed to be the second largest caldera in the world at 90 km2 and almost 2500 m above sea level.

Lake Nakuru National Park is home to a huge numbers of native African animals including waterbucks, warthogs, impalas, buffalo, Rothschild giraffes, elands, endangered black rhinos, white rhinos and, occasionally, leopards. A large herd of hippos have a territory in the northern part of the lake, making for interesting game viewing. The park is also renowned as a bird sanctuary with over 400 bird species.

Itinerary
During the trip, we will enjoy hiking in the beautiful nature trails of Menengai Crater, and explore Lake Nakuru National park; visit the Makalia Falls, Hippo Pools, Baboon cliff, the lookout point which offers the finest view across the lake.

DAY 1: Hiking Menengai Crater
7:00AM    - Depart Nairobi for Menengai Crater.
9:45AM    - Start off our hike
1:00 pm   - Enjoy picnic lunch at the view point
3:00PM    - Evening game drive, dinner & overnight camping at L.Nakuru N.P

 

 Day 2: Game drive- Lake Nakuru National Park
6:30AM      -Breakfast
7:00AM      -Game drive and bird watching
12:00PM    -Picnic lunch at baboon cliff.
3:30PM      -Depart for Nairobi

Trip cost Ksh. 9,800: Cost covers transport, meals, drinking water, guide fee, camping equipment and gate & camping fee for citizen only (residents and non-residents to pay own gate and camping fee)
