Overnight Camping – Aberdare National Park

Overnight camping trip to the Aberdares National Park on Friday 30th to Saturday 31st March 2018

Aberdare National park is on the southern end of the Aberdares Ranges, about 90km north of Nairobi and west of Mt Kenya in the central highlands between Nyeri and Naivasha.

During the trip, we will access the park via Mutubio Gate. We plan to enjoy game drive, an overnight camping, sit around a warm bonfire in the delightful and nature-filled park. We shall explore the park’s stunning landscape; enjoy a 14Km mild hike in its beautiful nature trails, watch wildlife and the abundance of different birdlife that our guides will help you identify.

The Hiking trails

Some parts of the Aberdare National Park walking trail are covered by a canopy of towering bamboo, the trail levels off and the Bamboo thins out as you get to the alpine zone, characterized by the stunning array of outlandish flora that leads you to see spectacular Karuru waterfalls.

Other Attractions

The park provides a habitat over 250 species of birds,  elephants, black rhinos, leopards, spotted hyenas, olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, buffalos, warthogs and bushbucks among others. Rare sightings include those of the Giant Forest hog, bongo, golden cat, serval cat, African wild cat, African civet cat and the blue duiker.

Trip itinerary

Day 1

  • 0830 hr - Meet at NMK outside Fisheries Department
  • 0900 hr - Depart for Aberdare
  • 1230 hr - Stop over for lunch
  • 1400 hr - Proceed to Aberdare NP for game viewing as we head to set up camp
  • 1830 hr - Evening meal and sleep over at the camp

Day 2

  • 0630 hr -Breakfast
  • 0700 hr -Start hiking, bird watching & site seeing.
  • 1400 hr -Lunch to be served at the camp
  • 1530 hr -Depart for Nairobi
  • 1800 hr -Time expected in Nairobi

Samburu National Reserve trip

Samburu National Reserve is situated 350 kilometers North of Nairobi in Samburu County. It is one of the two areas in which conservationists George & Joy Adamson raised Elsa: the Lioness made famous in the bestselling book and award winning movie Born Free.
The reserve is also the home of Kamunyak, a lioness famous for adopting oryx calves. In the middle of the reserve, the Ewaso Ng’iro flows through doumpalm groves and thick riverine forests which provides water to the game in this arid region.
During the trip, we shall explore the reserves inspiring landscape where we expect to see some of the big five, Gerenuk, Reticulated Giraffe, Somali Ostrich, Grevy’s Zebra, Besia Oryx, and much more. Birdlife is prolific with over 450 species of birds recorded

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 (Oct 20th)- Nairobi - Samburu

We shall meet at National Museums of Kenya- outside Fisheries Department Gate at 8:00 am and depart at 8:15 for Samburu. We will have a Stopover at Nanyuki for Early Lunch and Proceed to Samburu National Reserve for afternoon game drive and Camping

Day 2 (Oct 21st)- Samburu National Reserve

We plan to wake up early, take coffee and start off with an early morning game drive and head back to the camp for a Brunch at 11:00 am. You will have an option of visiting a nearby lodge for refreshment and swimming or relaxing at the camp. At 3:30 pm we will start the afternoon game drive and head back to the camp at 6:00 pm for dinner as we enjoy bonfire.

Day 3 (Oct 22nd)– Samburu –Nairobi

Breakfast will be served at 8:00 am, we shall enjoy game drive as we enroute to Nairobi. We will have a stopover for Lunch on our way as we expect to be back at the National Museums of Kenya latest by 5:00 pm

Cancellation

If a member cancels a reservation as detailed below, the following sums will be claimed.

  • If cancelled within 5 days prior – 50% of the total sum payable is due
  • If cancelled within 3 days to the trip or fails to show up – Full payment is due

In all instances, notification of cancellation must be made in writing and will be effective on the date received
