Nandi Biodiversity Conservation Group

| Based
in Kaptumo Market in Nandi South and with a current membership of
24, this SSG was established in 1999. The South Nandi Forest, one
of the most threatened Important Bird Areas in Kenya, is almost
certainly the most important site in the world for the threatened
Turner’s Eremomela. |
Activities
and impacts
• Bee keeping: 46 hives acquired in March 2007 – 3 now
already colonized
• Tree nursery established and More than 10000 seedlings planted
since August 2006
• Education & outreach outreach programme for schools
and community established with 4 local schools involved and over
1500 children participating
• Birdwatching excursions to the forest organised for awareness
• SONABIC represents the local community in the South Nandi
District Environment Committee
