Applying for a Small Grant - 1 : 2

Please see the 'Guidelines for applicants' for more information about the Bird Committee's small grants, and make sure that your application meets the basic requirements. There are no application forms for these grants. However applications should be set out under the following headings:

  1. Title of project
  2. Name (of individual or group applying)
  3. Contact person (i.e. the person handling correspondence about the proposal)
  4. Contact address (including telephone number fax and e-mail where appropriate)
  5. Support requested from Bird Committee (the total funds and/or any other support being requested)
  6. Summary of the project, indicating clearly what will be done and why it is important (this should be not more than 500 words long).
  7. Background and justification. What has led up to the project proposal being formulated and why does this work need to be done? How will the work benefit ornithology, bird conservation or bird management in Kenya/ East Africa?
  8. Ojectives of the project. These should be realistic and capable of being achieved in the time available and will the resources requested.
  9. Activities. What will actually be done and achieved? This section should include * methods to be used * a list of expected outputs * a clear timetable * an indication of who will carry out each aspect of the work
  10. Budget. This should clearly show the funds required to carry out the project, and the contribution requested from the Bird Committee. Break the budget down into appropriate headings (for example equipment travel and subsistence, stationery and communications etc.) (Note that the Bird Committee will not normally support salaries.) A brief justification should be given for all items listed in the budget.
  11. Accounting. How will funds be managed and accounted for? (Give bank account details if appropriate.)
  12. Other sources of support. Have you applied elsewhere for funds or support? If so where and for how much?
  13. Permissions. If permission is required to carry out any aspect of the project, attach, documents showing that it has or will be obtained.
  14. Applicants' background. Groups: attach background information on the organisation applying including the names of those people who will be involved with the project. Individuals: attach your CV.
