The National Museums of Kenya
From small beginnings NMK has grown into a diverse and dynamic organisation that is actively involved in public education, collection management and research. Museum departments specialise in a great range of subjects, from ethnography and palaeontology to botany, ichthyology and molecular genetics. Their work is translated for the public by the departments of education and exhibits. As well as the main Nairobi Museum, NMK operates museums in major towns across the country. A range of National Monuments, including rich archaeological and palaeontological sites such as Gede and Olorgesailie, are also open to the public. According to the Museums' Director-General, Dr Iddle Farah, "…our Museums' mission has expanded from one of passive collection and specialised scholarship to include active participation and commitment in meeting today's many needs of Kenyan society".
