the National Museums of Kenya (NMK)
Nature
Kenya believes in building partnerships for conservation action.
Nature Kenya (as the East Africa Natural History Society) set up
the original Museum in Nairobi. The links with the now NMK remain
close: for projects such as the annual waterbird counts,
NMK provides technical co-ordination while Nature Kenya members
collect much of the data. The Journal of East African Natural
History and Kenya Birds are published jointly by the
two organisations.

With
the Important Bird Areas (IBA) National Liaison Committee (NLC)
This
is a forum and steering group for the IBA programme. This Committee
was set up to link all the organisations involved in IBA conservation,
provide a means of sharing news and ideas, ensure wide participation
in programme decision-making, and improve the prospects of successful
action on the ground. The IBA-NLC meets three times a year. Presently
more than 27 institutions are represented (See
below). Among its other work, the IBA-NLC is co-ordinating the
annual status monitoring of all 60 of Kenya's IBAs. |
With
the Kenya Forest Working Group (KFWG)
Nature
Kenya is one of the founder members of the Kenya Forests Working
Group (KFWG), a forum for discussing and taking action on forest
conservation issues. KFWG brings together a number of institutions
and organisations (government and non-government, local, national
and international) and individuals, and Nature Kenya continues to
play an active role during regular meetings and on the Management
Committee. |
With
BirdLife International
Nature
Kenya is the BirdLife International Partner in Kenya, linking us
to the BirdLife Partnership across Africa and the globe. This allows
us to call on a wide range of advice and experience, especially
from the BirdLife International secretariat and the Royal Society
for the Protection of Birds (the BirdLife Partner in the UK). We
work closely with other Partners in the East African region: our
sister organisation Nature Uganda, the Wildlife Conservation Society
of Tanzania, and the Ethiopian Wildlife and Natural History Society.
