Take a hike this Easter and challenge yourself to a spectacular hike of Elephant hill, Aberdares with views that are unsurpassed. Undoubtedly, your time with nature will be…... Priceless!
Elephant Hill is an ideal location for a day hike especially if you’re preparing for the more challenging Mt Kenya or Mt Kilimanjaro climbs. It is on the southern end of the Aberdares Ranges, about 90km north of Nairobi and west of Mt Kenya in the central highlands between Nyeri and Naivasha. The Aberdares Ranges are the water catchment area feeding two of the largest dams supplying over 95% of Nairobi’s water needs.
The Hiking trails
We will ascend from the Mutubio gate at an altitude of 2600m this is expected to take 3 to 4 hours. Some parts of the trail are covered by a canopy of towering bamboo with the filtered light enhancing the jungle feel as you continue trudging.
The trail levels off and the Bamboo thins out as you get to the alpine zone, characterized by the stunning array of outlandish flora like lobelia, senecio, tussock grass, giant heather among others. We shall explore the park and enjoy game viewing and the abundance of different bird that our guide will help you identify.
