| Through
FONA and other stakeholders efforts, the Nairobi Arboretum Management
Board (NAMB) was established to manage the Arboretum in 1997. The

MasterPlan
The
Masterplan was launched in January 2000 by Permanent Secretary in
the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. It aims to develop
the Arboretum into a modern facility promoting environmental education,
recreation and scientific knowledge.
The
Masterplan has developed a broad view of the future role and functions
of the Arboretum, in wider context of relevant Kenyan policies as
well as international conventions. These include the Kenya Forestry
Masterplan, New Forest Bill (to be debated in parliament before
the end the year) National Environmental Action Plan etc. The Board
by Chairman appointed by Chief Conservator of Forests has met severally
this year to plan the way forward in the implementation of the Masterplan
and work out on the legality of the Board. |
