Dr. Ian Gordon

Dr. Gordon first came to Africa to work as a University lecturer
in 1971. Since then he has taught at five universities in Ghana,
Zimbabwe and Kenya. In 1993 he left the University teaching profession
and moved to Kilifi to start a community-based butterfly-farming
project (Kipepeo) at Arabuko-Sokoke Forest. The East African Natural
History Society (EANHS) administered this project. In 1998, Ian
left Kipepeo to become Co-ordinator of the EU-funded Birdlife International
Arabuko-Sokoke Forest Conservation and Management Project, which
ended in March 2002. He currently works as the Head of the Environmental
Health Division at the International Center of Insect Physiology
and Ecology (ICIPE).

Dr. Theresa Aloo

Dr. Aloo holds a PhD from the University of British Columbia, Canada.
She has worked for more than ten years with the Kenya Forest Department
as an Assistant Conservator of Forests in the research conservancy.
For several years she also taught Forest Protection, Community Conservation
and Agro Forestry at Egerton University. Her experience includes
working with the United Nations’ FAO as a Technical Advisor
in Tanzania. Dr. Aloo is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department
of Environmental Science at Kenyatta University, and is interested
in Agro Forestry, Sustainable Environmental Development, Equity
and Biodiversity Conservation

Mr. Christopher Hill

Mr. Hill holds a BA Honours degree from King’s College, University
of London, in Modern Languages (Spanish and Portuguese), and is
a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accounts in England and Wales.
He has worked as Financial Director for various companies in UK,
Chile, Brazil and Kenya. Since 1999 he has been the Director of
Finance and Administration at the International Center of Insect
Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE). He is a keen birdwatcher.

Mrs Fleur Ng’weno

Mrs Ng’weno is a naturalist, writer and editor. She holds
a BSc. in Conservation, and has been involved in environmental issues
in Kenya for forty years. She has been Honorary Secretary and Vice-Chairperson
of the EANHS, and has led the Wednesday morning bird walk for the
Society since 1971. Mrs. Ng’weno was the editor of Rainbow
Children’s magazine, a co-editor of Kenya’s 1994 National
Environment Action Plan, and has written several children’s
books.

Dr. Deborah Nightingale

Dr. Nightingale was involved in fieldwork on Stumptail Macaques
in Mexico before coming to Kenya in 1976 to do a three-year study
on baboons at Gilgil. She was awarded a Ph.D. in Anthropology from
ULCA in 1982, and has been living in Kenya since then, on a farm
in Naivasha and now in Nairobi. In 1996, Dr. Nightingale was awarded
an M.Sc. in Environmental Management from the External Programme
of the University of London.

Ms. Lorna Depew

Ms. Lorna Depew holds an MSc. in Zoology and taught zoology at degree
level for 20 years with an emphasis on ecology and ornithology.
She previously held the post of Honorary Secretary with the Society,
and has been an Editor of the Journal over the past seven years
and has been on the Editorial Committee for over ten years. She
was previously co-editor and then Editor of the Bulletin. She is
currently the Honorary Journal Editor for the Society and the Managing
and Production Editor of African Primates, the journal of the Africa
Section of the IUCN/SSC Primate Specialist Group. |

Dr. Siro Masinde

Dr. Masinde holds a DSc. in Systematic Botany from the University
of Muenster, Germany. He has authored 20 publications and is a member
of the Association for Taxonomic Study of Tropical Africa (AETFAT),
International Asclepiad Society and Systematic Association (UK).
He has been a member of the EANHS since 1991. He is currently a
Senior Research Scientist at the East African Herbarium, National
Museums of Kenya.
Dr.Tom Butynski

Dr. Butynski holds a PhD.,in Wildlife Ecology. He has worked as
a field biologist and conservationist in Africa for 34 years, mostly
in Botswana, Uganda, Equatorial Guinea, Tanzania and Kenya. Past
Director, Institute of Tropical Forest Conservation (Uganda). Dr
Butynski has well over 100 publications. He is presently the Director,
Conservation International’s Eastern Africa Biodiversity Hotspots;
Vice-Chair, Africa Section, IUCN/SSC Primate Specialist Group; Senior
Editor, African Primates; Editorial Committee, Journal of East African
Natural History; International Editorial Board, Oryx; and Conservation
Committee, East African Wildlife Society.
Mike Davidson ACIB

Mike Davidson has been a banker for 43 years, firstly serving Barclays
in several countries, including UK, Zambia, Botswana, Gibraltar
and latterly Kenya. He was the Managing Director of NIC Bank (the
Bank on the MOVE). He has always been interested in wildlife and
is a keen birder. He is also a keen golfer and is Treasurer of the
Ngong Road Forest Sanctuary Trust.
Ms. Irene Karani-Njumbi

Ms. Njumbi holds a M.Phil in Wildlife Management from Moi University.
She has been a Lecturer at Moi University and Daystar University
teaching various disciplines of ecology and biology and has worked
with the Wildlife Clubs of Kenya as the Programme Officer. She is
now the Pastoralist Project Manager in ITDG-EA (Intermediate Technology
Development Group).
Mr. Michael Joseph

Mr. Joseph has a Bsc. In Electrical Engineering from the University
of Cape Town and is a member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers
(I.E.E.E) and Institute of Electronic Engineers (I.E.E), U.K. Michael
Joseph is the General Manager/CEO of Safaricom Limited. He was previously
the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) for Vodafone Hungary. Mr. Joseph
has held senior positions with International Wireless Communications
(IWC), Companie Telephonie Internationale (CTI) in Argentina and
the Davy Group in South Africa (nine international companies). Michael
has a passion for environmental conservation and has steered Safaricom’s
participation into numerous projects including the Arberdare Forest
Fund and the Safaricom Lewa Marathon.
Dr.Helida Oyieke

Dr. Oyieke has a PhD. in Marine Botany. She works as Assistant Director
of the Centre for Biodiversity of the National Museums of Kenya
and doubles up as the Director for Research and Scientific Affairs.
Dr. Oyieke has a keen interest in research and community wildlife
conservation. She is a strong supporter of Nature Kenya Conservation
Programmes.
Dr. Philip Muruthi

Dr. Muruthi has a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from
the Princeton University. He has over 10 year’s expertise
in wildlife research and management. His research interests are
in animal ecology especially the ecology of disturbed populations,
and the impact of humans on wildlife populations, their feeding,
nutrition, parental care, demography and conservation biology. Currently,
he is the Chief Scientist for the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF).
